Motorsport wasn't where I started. I'd been photographing landscapes and wildlife for years — then I stood at my first race weekend and understood I'd be back. F1, F2, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: I go where I can, and I go on my own terms. Shooting for myself taught me the thing I keep: I bring a point of view to a weekend, not just a checklist.

What I'm after is emotion — the tension of a lap that's going wrong, the noise you feel in your chest, the way an entire grandstand leans the same direction at once. That's the picture I want. Everything else is a means to it: smoke, sparks, rain, low sun across the tarmac, a panning frame that's mostly blur. I use whatever carries the feeling of that particular moment, and I'll lose frames trying.
